Safety instructions for bringing items to the Red Willow County Household Hazardous Waste Facility
- Keep products in their original container if possible.
- Never mix household chemicals or other products.
- Tighten all lids before transporting.
- Place the containers inside a box or tote so they remain upright and line with plastic or newspaper to collect any spills or leaks.
- Place leaking or damaged containers in heavy or double plastic. Only one leaking container per bag.
- Label unmarked containers. If you do not know what the item is, ask others in your household if they know and write down their comments.
- Place the box of waste in a level place in your vehicle. The bed of a truck or trunk is preferred.
- If transporting waste inside the vehicle, open two windows to allow fresh air to enter.
- Go directly to the facility after packing your vehicle. Do not run errands, go to work, or park in direct sunlight while the waste is inside. Vapors can build up and become dangerous.

Do not leave items outside the gate. Items must be brought into the facility when open.
A large load of items may constitute a charge for disposal. Since the facility runs on grant funding, large loads take up much of that funding; therefore a cost is associated with large loads, facilities and businesses, community cleanup events, and other entities. If unsure of the costs or the load size, please contact personnel at the facility prior to bringing the load in.
